CAU chancellor visits Kyrdemkulai Agri college

Shillong, Sept 22: The inaugural lecture on ‘vision on education and research in agriculture in India in 21st century” of the lecture series on the eve of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav” was organised on September 20 at College of Agriculture, Kyrdemkulai (Central Agricultural University-Imphal). The programme was jointly organised by National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) Regional Chapter for NEH Region Barapani, International Union of Organic Agriculture (IUOA), Shillong and College of Agriculture, Kyrdemkulai.
Dr UK Behera, Dean, College of Agriculture and Convener of NAAS explained about the objectives of such programme, various activities undertaken during the current year for the benefit of farmers and other stakeholders through the College and NAAS, New Delhi.
Agricultural Scientist S Ayyappan, Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal and former Director General, ICAR and Secretary, DARE, and former president, NAAS, New Delhi delivered the first inaugural lecture.
Ayyappan opened the Agro-meteorological observatory at the college, which will be of use to researchers, farmers and officers to know the weather parameters.
The scientists of IRRI, ICAR Research Complex, Umiam, Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Shillong, NECTAR, Shillong, officers of line department of Agriculture and Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, faculties, students, dean and staff of college of post graduate studies in agricultural sciences, faculties of College of Agriculture, Kyrdemkulai and farmers from five different villages in Ri-bhoi district took part. Ayyapan distributed power tillers worth Rs 2.5 lakh, farm development card and other agricultural inputs (vegetable seeds, animal feed, kitchen garden kits) to farmers.
College of Agriculture, Kyrdemkulai has been helping the farmers of Meghalaya under Covid-19 scenario through such initiatives.
