CBI begins inquiry against Mahua Moitra in cash-for-query allegations

New Delhi, Nov 25 (UNI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday began a preliminary investigation against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on the directions of Lokpal in connection with ‘cash-for-query’ allegations, sources said.

Moitra was accused by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey of taking “bribes” from a businessman to ask questions targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and an industrialist in Parliament.

Moitra denied charges of taking the alleged bribes. However, on the complaint of Nishikant Dubey, the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee is looking into the allegations against her.

Without taking anyone’s name, Nishikant Dubey launched a veiled attack on the TMC MP over income tax. In his post on X, Dubey alleged, “If Income Tax will not be given, you will travel indiscriminately to Dubai, America, London and within the country in business class and have fun in a five-star hotel. Then the CBI headquarters will ask for the bill from your travel agent and hotel on the instructions of the Lokpal. He will ask, who paid for it?.”

In his second post on X, Dubey alleged, “How to travel to Dubai, Nepal, America, London, pairs in business class and five-star hotels in the country and abroad without money, how to get a branded bag, purse and watch for this you can contact the MP accused of corruption. Now, I feel sorry for Mamta Didi.”
