Centre examining ILP, says union minister

Shillong, Aug 19: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra has said the Centre is committed to find solution to various issues confronting thle indigenous people,including the demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP).

“Whatever problem is there, we arø trying resolve them'”, he said.

In response to a question on ILP, the union minister said it is not feasible to say anything since the issue is under consideration of the Centre.

“See, whenever anything is in process or when an issue is under consideration or when demand for certain things are there, it is not feasible to decide anything in this matter. When the plan is made or the policy is passed then only basically we announced! it,” he said.

HNLC talks 

Talks are on with the banned outfit, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

“Now talks are going on with the HNLC and once it’s over we will let you know about the decision),” Mishra said.

He recalled that there was a time when some foreign entities encouraged militancy and there were many people from within the country who also never wanted the nation to develop.

AFSPA issue 

To a question, the minister said the Centre is not in favour of imposing laws including the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 – which are against the will of the people.

CAA

The minister wanted the social organisations to understand the concept of the CAA.

“They should understand that this country belongs to them as well and if some of our citizens are lost in some countries and are in trouble and now come back to India they should be respected”, he said.

“When the law is not for the citizens of the country, those who are citizens of the country they are recognised as citizens only, we have only amended 1955 Citizenship law that minorities from these three nations if they have come to India prior to December 2014 should be granted citizenship”, he said.
