City’s maximum temperature at record 29.9 till date this year
6.4 degree more than the usual temperature in September
Shillong, Sept 22: The city’s maximum temperature stood at 29.9 degree Celsius on Sunday.
This is the highest till date this year, said an official wih the Upper Shillong weather station.
The maximum temperature varied from 28 degree to 29 in the last two days.
According to the official data of the Upper Shillong Meteorological Centre calculated from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm on September 22, the maximum temperature was 29.9 and the minimum at 18.6.
The maximum temperature is a departure from the normal September temperature of 23 degree Celsius, the official added.
The departure from normal temperature is 6.4 degree.
Shillong humidity was 69 percent in the morning and 55 in the evening
Sohra and Umiam recorded maximum of 33.1 and 34.4 degrees respectively.
Second highest since formation of state
The September 22 maximum temperature of 29.9 is the second highest after the 30.2 degrees Celsius recorded for the first time in April I973, according to a report.
Earlier in June 1999, the third highest temperature was recorded at 29.7 degree Celsius.
Other high temperatures recorded was 29.5 degrees Celsius in May 1979 and 29.1 in April 2023.
