CM asks youth to give back weapons

Miscreants took away vehicle and rifles

Shillong , Aug 16: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wanted the youths  who snatched away weapons from the police to bring them back .

“All those people who are involved are asked to immediately give back the weapons” Sangma told reporters on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday while the  funeral of the former HNLC leader  Cheristerfield Thangkhiew was in progress.

The youths took away a police vehicle (black Scorpio) belonging to Mawkynroh outpost and set it ablaze at Jaiaw.

The youths also took possession of the weapons  of  police personnel and one drove the vehicle while some of them brandished the weapons  before setting it on fire at Jaiaw.

The police personnel who had deserted their weapons are already under suspension and inquiry against them has been ordered .

CM condemns petrol bomb 

Stating that the petrol bomb attack against his house is meaningless, the chief minister said, “We are here trying to work together to resolve all these kinds of issues and whatever has happened in the past you will see different kinds of elements have tried to create unrest…Therefore, we condemn it and obviously we will be finding the people who are responsible for this also.”

“I appeal to everybody that they may be peaceful, we must try to resolve this issue in a proper manner and violence is not the way forward,” he added.
