CM’s plea to include Khasi-Garo in 8th schedule

Shillong, Nov 21: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has urged the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to take initiative for inclusion of Khasi-Garo languages.

Sepaking at a function attended by the union m, who opened the new building of central Hindi institute on Sunday at Mawdiangdiang, Conrad said recognition to Khasi and Garo language wil be a gift of the Centre to Meghalaya as it is set to celebrate 50 years of statehood on January 21 next.

Speaking in Hindi, the chief minister called for use of Hindi as there is vast job opportunities.

“Language barrier is a problem for the youths to avail jobs in various sectors”, he said.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui also stressed the need of using Hindi widely.
