Early part of last year, after a team of  Core Geo Expedition discovered the fossil, Geological Survey of India (GSI) tried to examine it.

However, the villagers wanted to preserve it and hence further studies were not carried out.

An official with the GSI said it was an important find located in a cave and it would have revealed the transition of whales from land to water.

The villagers had closed the entrance of the cave after the discovery of the fossil.

A GSI team is expected to examine the area..
