Cong petitions CEO against women’s panel chief for supporting Jowai NPP candidate

Shillong,Feb 14: Senior Congress leaders have submitted a complaint against the ‘abuse’ of office by state women commission Chairperson Phidalia Toi for participating in the election rally of Jowai NPP candidate Wailadmiki Shylla.

The Congress cited a precedence in 1971 which led to the disqualification of Indira Gandhi.

In a statement, the Congress cited that in 1971 Yashpal Kapur, Officer on Special Duty, a gazetted officer of the Government of India, was appointed election agent. He was in the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s Secretariat . He resigned on January 13, 1971 and his resignation was accepted with effect from January 14, 1971. A notification was issued by the Prime Minister’s Secretariat in that connection on January 25, 1971. The High Court, however, held that Gandhi had held herself out as a candidate for the election from December 29, 1970. The High court concluded that this was a violation of Section 123(7) of the RP ACT which led to the disqualification of Gandhis candidature.

The precedence demonstrates that the candidature of Wailadmiki needs to be disqualified as Phidalia has abused her office by campaigning for Wailadmiki

The delegation also made a complaint on the defacing of the Shillong city as there are plenty of posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Sha and BJP President JP Nadda.

The CEO Frederick Kharkongor has acknowledged the fact and taken cognisance of the matter. “On due process of investigation ,appropriate action will be taken on both the matters”, he assured.

AICC senior observers Benny Bahnan, MP Jesudas Seelam , Former MOS. Finance , Joplin Scott Shylla , President Mahila Congress, Bobbeeta Sharma and Advocate Mathew Antony were part of the delegation.
