Congress snarls at BJP for ‘assessing’ poll prospects

Shillong, Jan 28: The Congress on Saturday snarled at the BJP over the remark of its Meghalaya in-charge M Chuba Ao on the former’s prospects in the February 27 Assembly elections.

The president of Shillong City Congress Committee, Dr Omarlin Kyndiah, was reacting to Ao’s remark that the Congress would win 3-4 seats.

“Perhaps Ao should keep himself occupied in improving the performance of his own party,” Kyndiah said, adding, “One hopes that the BJP learns its most important lesson from the previous elections which is to respect the essential secular principles of the Constitution and its Preamble and to take action against those of its foot-soldiers who insist on violating the principles of secularism and social harmony endlessly.”

Last Friday, Ao said in the city that the Congress was not finding good candidates, and according to BJP’s assessment, would not win more than 3-4 seats,

“While Chuba Ao expressed confidence about his party’s performance, which is contrary to the assessment of BJP state president Ernest Mawrie, Ao and the BJP seem to be in a state of confusion making BJP a ‘confused party of confused leaders’,” Kyndiah said.
