Covid protocol in bypolls: 300 to vote from their homes

Shillong, Oct 21: As many as 300 people comprising senior citizens, the disabled and the Covid affected people will vote from home for three bypolls due to Covid pandemic.
Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said the provision of form 12 D postal ballots will be used for assisting senior citizens,mostly 80 plus, people with disabilities and Covid positive voters to vote so that they need not come out of their homes due to Covid.
Bypolls for Mawryngkneng, Mawphlang and Rajabala will be held on October 30.
“They can vote from home through postal ballots if they have opted, without physically going to polling station”, Kharkongor said.
From Mawryngkneng, 132 applications were received by the returning officer and 114 from Mawphlang. From Rajabala there were 54.
Triangle safety
The election department has also initiated triangle of safety for the entire poll process, starting from sanitised polling stations and ensuring strict adherence to Covid protocols in polling stations by the personnel engaging in voting process.
