Shillong, May 10: The East Khasi Hills district administration has closed all shops at Mawbah, Jhalupara, Nongmensong and Polo for violation of health protocols.
In the order on Monday, the district magistrate said that reports have been received from the Incident Commanders that market areas of Mawbah, Jhalupara, Nongmensong and Polo are not following the protocols, despite regulation on opening of shops, and strict instructions that people should move out only for essential purposes.
The magistrate said it was noticed that many are not complying to the protocols of the health department and that many shops were seen to be crowded, and there are still some persons who are not wearing masks or observing physical distancing with due diligence.
“And it was also observed that people are moving from one locality to another despite restrictions and the laxity is a cause of concern in view of the ongoing fast spread of Covid-19”, the order said, adding that for containment of any possible spread of Covid-19, all shops and establishments in the localities of Mawbah, Jhalupara, Nongmynsong and Polo market area will remain closed on May 11 and 12.
The district administration said that the Superintendent of Police, Incident Commanders and Executive Magistrates will ensure compliance to the order, and meticulously plan for staggered reopening along with widespread publicity so that there is discipline in following of protocols..
