Deficit teachers’ body takes up pension, other issues
Shillong,Nov 15: The Khasi-Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association ( KJDSTA) and Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers Association on Monday met Chief Secretary Rebecca Suchiang, Additional Chief Secretary in-charge education, DP Wahlang and secretary, education Ambrose Marak to discuss the pending issues.
There are more than 3000 deficit teachers in the state.
President of KJDSTA, Babu Kular Khongjirem (in picture) said the pending issues like pension, death cum retirement gratuity (DCRG), medical reimbursement, arrears and modified assured career progressive scheme among others were discussed.
He said the teachers wanted to avail pension as per the fifth pay commission recommendations. Those who have joined before 2010, are supposed to get old pension and those who joined service after 2010, the new pension scheme.
The delegation of teachers demanded Rs 10 lakh as DCRG instead of the current Rs 3.5 lakh and medical reimbursement like the government teachers.
As the government had paid 50 per cent arrears, the teachers also wanted the release of remaining 50 per cent at the earliest.
Another demand is the extension of modified assured career progressive scheme to the deficit teachers.
