Demand for expediting shift of CRPF camp from Mawlai
Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun meets Sanbor Shullai

Shillong, Aug 31: The Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun (SSMP) on Wednesday sought Arts & Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai’s intervention in expediting the shifting of the CRPF camp from Mawlai to make way for a deaddiction-cum-recreational centre.
SSMP president Samuel Biam said although residents of Mawlai appreciate the state government’s sincerity in relocating the CRPF Camp. However, SSMP wants that the process should be accelerated.
“Since the current site of the CRPF at Mawlai belongs to the Arts & Culture department government of Meghalaya, we have come to meet the minister in-charge to work along with the department of Social Welfare to set up a de-addiction cum recreational centre to treat the addicts and help them reintegrate with the society,” Biam said.
Explaining the need for a deaddiction centre, Biam said the state has witnessed a rise in drug addiction, especially among the youths. In Mawlai too, the cases are rising and the centre will treat addicts, especially from poor families, free of cost.
