Demand to cancel trading licenses of RR Colony

Shillong, Sept 1: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has asked the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to make null and void all illegal trading licenses issued in Them Rynjah under the Rynjah Dorbar Shnong.

Speaking to journalists after meeting the KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem, HITO president Donbok Dkhar said it had received information that since 2007, the R&R Colony Welfare Society had been issuing no objection certificate (NOC) to non-tribals to run business in the colony which falls under Rynjah.

Dkhar said that the R&R Colony Welfare Society got its power to issue NOC to non-tribal businesses after a resolution signed by MLA AL Hek and former EM in-charge Trade Sanbor Shullai was adopted on February 16, 2007.

“The decision of the Society to issue NOC for trading licenses to traders in Them Rynjah which is a sub-locality which is under Rynjah Dorbar Shnong under the Mylliem Syiemship is totally illegal and it also violates the existing Mylliem Act 2007 and Rules 2015 passed by the KHADC” he said.

Dkhar said the organisation demanded an inquiry and to seek explanation from the Rynjah Dorbar Shnong as to why NOC is being issued by the Society and not the Dorbar Shnong.

Earlier on Thursday, the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) had  asked the Council to seek clarification from the two BJP legislators – Sanbor and Hek – on what authority have they appointed a non-tribal headman and gave those who stayed at RR Colony a free and separate administration.
