Did not ask Amita to keep quiet on assault: Conrad

Shillong, Nov 1:  After activist Amita Sangma, who was assaulted in November 2018 by coal barons in East Jaintia Hills , had revealed that she was asked to keep quiet by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the latter on Monday denied saying anything.

“That is completely false, I have never spoken to the concerned person”, the chief minister told reporters.

On October 18, Sangma had alleged that Conrad had asked her to keep quiet after she and Agnes Kharshiing were attacked by coal mafia on November 8, 2018.

NPP leader Nidamon Chullet was leading the group that targeted the duo.

Amita said when the chief minister met her at NEIGRIHMS where she was admitted after the attack, he wanted her to keep quiet about the incident.

Hence, she doubted whether they will get justice since the NPP is in power in the state.

“I doubt whether we will be able to get justice because even Conrad Sangma is also involved. His own partymen were involved in attacking me and Agnes,” Amita had told reporters.
