Five held in assault case of local taxi drivers

Shillong, May 19: Five persons hailing from a city locality were arrested on Friday by the police in connection with the assault on two local taxi drivers by six miscreants, on Thursday night at Khyndailad.

After an FIR was filed on Friday, police acted in arresting the suspects.

Earlier, agitated taxi drivers did not allow local taxis to ply from Khyndailad.

The incident took place on Thursday around 10 pm at Khyndailad over parking issue.

Later, some taxi drivers and youths reached Sadar police station and punctured the tyres of the police vehicles with knives.

Taxi service to resume from May 20

President of the East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association, Wandonbok Jyrwa confirmed the arrest of five persons hailing from Harijan Colony.

He added that since the police arrested the culprits within the deadline set by the association, the local taxi service will resume from Saturday.

On 19/05/2023@ 10:20 pm Shri Iohborlang Kharsohnoh age 27 yrs of Jongksha and Shri. Banshai Syiem age 25 yrs of Laitkor were assaulted at Police Bazar point by a group of miscreants as a result of which, both the victims sustained injuries on their person and were taken to Civil Hospital Shillong for medical treatment. In this connection, a case vide Shillong Sadar PS Case No. 115(5)23 U/s 307/324/326/34 IPC Act has been registered and investigation taken up.

During the course of investigation, the Special Cell, East Khasi Hills along with the help of Guwahati City Police nabbed the 5 (five) persons at Guwahati.
