Shillong, May 19: Police arrested five members of a Bangladeshi family in Byrnihat on Monday for illegally entering Meghalaya.
Ri Bhoi SP Vivekanand Singh Rathore said around 7 am, while conducting checking at Byrnihat, one tourist vehicle was detected carrying five passengers who did not possess any valid documents. On enquiry, it was learnt that these persons namely Hafpix sigdah (56) s/o Johil Sigdah r/o Norail Jylla P.S Kalia Thana, Bangladesh, his wife namely Ujala Begum (35), and their three children namely Harim Sigdah, Lejaa Khatun and Alina Khatun were Bangladeshi nationals who entered India illegally last year and were returning to Bangladesh via Shillong.

A case has been registered and they have been produced in court.
