Shillong, Sept 2: The state government has released the scholarship money to 87,691 students ahead of schedule.
In a statement issued on Wednesday( Sept 2), the state government said that the scholarship money under the Umbrella Post-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students for the
Academic Year 2025–26 has been disbursed to the students across Meghalaya.
Rs 91.01 crore has been paid out.
While releasing the funds on August 27 at Shillong College, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had informed students that the money would take about five to six days to reach their accounts. The scholarship has in fact been disbursed within three to four working days, ahead of
the time indicated.
This has been possible because the scholarship is now paid through the SNA-SPARSH system, which
creates a direct payment route from the Reserve Bank of India to the student’s own bank account, without
the funds passing through intermediate accounts.
Every student whose Aadhaar was linked and whose application was verified has been paid.
Payment has been made to every student whose application was verified and whose Aadhaar was correctly linked to a working bank account. No verified student with a properly linked Aadhaar has been
left out.
Of the 96,812 applications verified in the state, 87,691 students have received payment. The remaining
9,121 students could not be paid only because their Aadhaar is not linked to their bank accounts, or because
of similar problems with their bank account details. Their money has not been withdrawn or cancelled. It
is being held and will be paid as soon as the bank account details are corrected.
Students who have not yet received the money were advised by the government to visit their respective banks and get their Aadhaar linked to their bank account.
Once this is done, the payment will be processed in the next cycle.
Funds position
A total of 96,812 applications were verified for the Academic Year 2025–26.
The full requirement for the year is Rs 198.43 crore.
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has released the Central share of Rs 84.55 crore, and the State Government
has released its share of Rs 9.40 crore, making Rs 93.95 crore available.
• Of this, Rs 91.01 crore has already been paid to 87,691 students. The balance Rs 2.94 crore is under process.
• The remaining Rs 104.48 crore required for full payment will be released in the coming instalments.
Under the new system adopted by the state government, the scholarship is paid to every eligible student in five instalments. Earlier, only about one in five students received the full amount and the rest had to wait for the Central government to release the next instalments.
