Shillong, Sept 2: The state government has conveyed to the protesting lawyers that the Advocate General Amit Kumar will abstain from work for two weeks.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Law Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and law department officials held a meeting with the leaders of the bar associations, on Wednesday (Sept 2) to end the stalemate.
The bar associations are demanding the removal of the advocate general, who had commented during a hearing that the legal fraternity failed to protect law interns and women lawyers following the alleged molestation of an intern by a senior advocate.
On Tuesday, the lawyers had met the Chief Justice and the Law Minister.
After the meeting, the lawyers’ delegation said they will apprise the matter to other members before taking a final decision.
