Moreover, though the patients have MHIS cards, only a small percentage is covered by most of the hospitals.

Briefing reporters after the review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the state government has given a deadline of 48 hours for the health department to work out a solution to help Covid patients and provide assistance that may be extended from the government to the families of the deceased patients.

The government has also asked the health department, giving 48 hours,  to create more beds at CHCs and PHCs.

The plan of the government is to create at least 20 beds for Covid patients as this will help people who are staying in far flung areas. “This issue was entrusted to the health department”, Tynsong said.
