NHIDCL terminates work of Ryngain contractor

Shillong, April 24: The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) has cancelled the contract of ARSS infrastructure projects limited after the accident in Ryngain, Pynursla in East Khasi Hills.

The accident following the landslide had claimed two lives.

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (roads) told reporters on Tuesday that the contract was terminated and the NHIDC will follow up  the progress of the work.

Tynsong said the NHIDCL will prepare an action plan to prevent the recurrence of landslide at Rngain along the Shillong-Dawki road.

Tynsong held a meeting with the officials in this regard.

He said the landslide prone area on the stretch of the road was discussed and a few  areas were identified since it will be dangerous with the coming of the monsoons.

“We already discussed all the details. The technical people from the NHIDCL will prepare an action plan on how to go about it and to make sure a dedicated team for any emergency work is there 24×7,” he said.

When asked, Prestone said cancellation of the work has already been done against ARSS due to poor progress of work. “So the head office of NHIDCL has already terminated the contract agreement with the ARSS, which is implementing the package-II which is from Mylliem till the bypass Pynursla.

Package-I, package-4 and package 5 were also discussed in the meeting.The government has asked the NHIDCL start the retendering process for these packages of the Shillong-Dawki road.
