Shillong, Oct 29: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong claimed that the state government on Friday took over the Harijan Colony land at Iew Mawlong.

On March 31 this year, a tripartite lease deed was signed between the state government, the Syiem of Mylliem and Shillong Municipal Board to facilitate taking over of the land.

The government plans beautification of the area once the Harijan Colony is relocated.

According to the deputy chief minister,  urban affairs department will decide whether the area should be made into a shopping mall or parking lot.

Tynsong, however, did not make clear the plan of the government regarding the Gurdwara and school.

To a question on the status quo order of the high court, Tynsong refused to comment on the matter but said the government will challenge once the concerned party moves  the court.

He, however, ruled out any law and order problem over the issue.

“We will assure you that there will be no law and order problem. You have every right to come. We welcome any delegation from outside, the governemnt will explain to them the actuality and I am sure they will understand what is the stand of the government,” he said.
