Govt yet to decide on reopening of schools & colleges

Shillong, Aug 9: The state government is yet to decide on reopening of schools and colleges.
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Health and Family Welfare Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Monday that the government will soon take a call for reopening of educational institutions in the state.
“The issue will be taken up in the next few days,” Tynsong said.
He said the government has asked the education department to give a presentation on the modalities for opening up of schools, colleges and universities in the state.
He said the government also wanted to bring back normalcy at the earliest possible as livelihood of people is affected.
“The government is really concerned about this issue especially if you talk about the livelihood of the people. However, taking into the consideration the alarming increase of the positivity which is still very grim, we cannot take decisions in one go but step by step as we watch and observe the situation,” he said.
The deputy chief minister also reiterated the importance for the citizens to get vaccinated so that normalcy can be restored.
“The only way to protect ourselves from Covid-19 is through vaccination. The state however has registered only 46 percent as of today. Therefore, we still have a long way to go,” he added.
