HNLC man surrenders; suspect involved in planting IED held

Shillong, Oct 7: Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that an HNLC cadre identified as Emanuel Suchen surrendered before the  police at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills district, on Thursday.

Suchen  joined the HNC in 2002 and was arrested in 2008. He was jailed for three years under MPDA and again he rejoined the outfit.

According to Rymbui,  preliminary interrogation revealed that Suchen was involved in the IED blasts in Star Cement and police reserve at Khliehriat.

Suspect identified as Sainkupar Kharkongor

Rymbui further said the suspect involved in planting IED infront of NPP office at Lachaumiere was arrested by the police on Wednesday.

He has been identified as Sainkupar Kharkongor.

Rymbui said he is a member of  HNLC from Umphyrnai area.

He said the arrest was made based on inputs and credible evidence.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that Kharkongor was involved in placing the bomb in that area,” Rymbui added.,

The home minister maintained that nothing can be solved through confrontation but it is only by negotiation within the parameters of the Constitution of India.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (A) GK Iangrai said that the accused was apprehended from Shillong Civil Hospital for his involvement in the incident and he  admitted to his role and  stated that he is a member of the HNLC.

Incriminating evidence has been seized from his possession, Iangrai added.
