Shillong, May 3: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM) has opposed recognition to acting headmen from Garo community in villages under Hima Mylliem.
After the members of HNYM gathered at the office of Hima Mylliem on Wednesday, it set a deadline of three days to cancel the official recognition.

HNYM president Louis Dohtdong said since August 2022, there has been a demand to withdraw recognition to all Garo acting headmen but no action was taken.
Dohtdong told reporters that 29 persons from the Garo community were appointed as acting headmen in villages under Hima Mylliem and they had misused their position by giving NOC to sell lands to non-tribals.
