Home remedies to treat dark underarms
Are dark underarms making you feel conscious and stopping you from wearing your favourite sleeveless outfits? Dark underarms are extremely common and usually harmless, but they can make you feel self‑conscious.
Underarm darkening is commonly linked to friction, hair-removal methods, or skin irritation, not hygiene. While it could just be your genetics or the products you use, dark underarms can also be a sign that something else is going on with your health.
If you are searching for a dark underarms remedy or safe underarm whitening ideas that actually work, you are not alone. The good news: simple, consistent home care can often help more than aggressive shortcuts.
Lemon
Lemon is a natural bleaching agent that can brighten the skin, including that in the armpits. Lemon also contains antiseptic properties that can help eliminate foul underarm odour.
Lemon contains Vitamin C and citric acid, making it a natural brightening powerhouse. You can rub lemon slices under your arms. Wait 10 minutes and then rinse the area with cool water and let it dry.
Apply fresh lemon juice to the affected area. Wait 10 minutes and then rinse the area with cool water and let it dry. Mix lemon juice with turmeric to make a paste for your underarms. Apply to your underarms and wait 30 minutes before washing off with cold water.
Baking Soda
One of the best home remedies for dark underarms is baking soda. Baking soda contains exfoliating and bleaching agents that help lighten the dark underarms.
Mix 2 tablespoons with water to make a paste, and apply the thick paste on the armpit for 5 minutes. Apply it twice a week.
Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda to rosewater, and stir this mixture evenly. Then, apply this solution to your armpit area and wait for about 10 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water. You can practice this trick twice a week for lighter underarms. However, its high alkalinity may cause skin irritation, burns, or increased sensitivity.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is one of the most sought-after ingredients used as a dark underarm remedy.
Coconut oil has Vitamin E, which is known to lighten skin. It moisturises while gently lightening dark areas. This moisturising approach is particularly beneficial if dryness contributes to your underarm concerns.
Massage a few drops of coconut oil onto your underarms. Gently massage it, and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water. You can try this 2-3 times a week. The lauric acid in coconut oil also has antimicrobial properties, helping to keep bacteria at bay.
Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe vera is infused with aloin and aloesin. While aloin is a natural depigmenting component that helps in lightening the dark patches, aloesin helps in preventing the production of excess melanin, thereby reducing skin hyperpigmentation.
Aloe vera gel has skin-soothing properties and may aid in skin lightening. Fresh aloe vera gel is incredibly gentle yet effective for sensitive underarm skin. It contains antibacterial properties which help soothe and lighten your skin.
Cut into a fresh leaf of aloe vera and extract the gel. Apply a thin layer to clean underarms and let it absorb naturally. Then, rinse it off with lukewarm water. You can apply it daily for better results. Apply aloe vera over the pigmented areas before bedtime and wash it off with lukewarm water the next morning daily.
