HYC slams state MPs for not raising coal & language issues, mentions TMC’s efforts

Shillong, Feb 15: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has flayed the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government for the rampant illegal mining and transportation of coal in the state.

The Meghalaya High Court recently ordered deployment of central armed police force (CAPF) to stop such illegal activities in the state.

“It is a shame as it is us the people of the State will have to pay for the expenditure of the deployment of these CAPFs in addition to the already incapable state police forces. We blamed the NPP-led government for these acts and events leading to such a drastic and serious observations and order of the High Court of Meghalaya,” HYC general secretary Roykupar Synrem said in a statement here.

In another order on Tuesday, the High Court ordered for deployment of CRPF personnel to check the illegal coal mining and transportation. Synrem said, “This is a major embarrassment to the state police and the entire state machineries headed by the incumbent NPP-led government.”

The HYC also criticised the MPs belonging to the NPP and the Congress for not raising the issue of coal mining and the inclusion of Khasi-Garo languages recently in Parliament.

Lauding the efforts of the TMC  MPs who had raised these issues, the HYC leader said, “Derek O’Brien, who is the MP from the AITC, went to an extent of challenging our MPs for not raising these issues”.

“ Now, will our MPs reply to the challenge of Derek O’Brien and show the people of Meghalaya, what have they spoken about during the last 10 days of Parliament sittings? Or will they keep quiet and let the water flow till such time until the election is over?. The people of the state need answers from these representatives,” he added.
