Shillong, June 23: A jail staff was suspended on Thursday after the escape of a convict from the Jowai jail.
The suspended staff is the driver of the ambulance of the jail.
“The prison staff, Anish Swer has been placed under suspension and departmental proceedings will be drawn up against him.As per preliminary report he was responsible for the escape”, an official said.
On Wednesday afternoon, the prisoner identified as Shiningstar Pala was taken out by the driver to wash the ambulance stationed at the jail.
Later, the driver asked him to pluck squash (piskot) leading to his escape from the damaged portion of the boundary wall.
Efforts are also on to repair the boundary wall.
Following the incident, the jail authorities have made it clear that the prisoners should not be taken out by any one.
The escaped prisoner is yet to be traced.
