Jowai futsal team enters national championship semis
Shillong, Nov 8: Niaw Wasa, a futsal team from Jowai, won 8-2 over Telongjem FC of Nagaland in Group C encounter of Futsal Club Championship in New Delhi on Monday.
The team, which kept its dream of reaching the semifinals alive, came back strong after trailing twice in the first half but rallied to win big with magnificent performances by Wadajied Ryngkhlem, Niponghi Sumer, Primrose Lamat, Riburom Jat and Samson Nongrum.
Niaw Wasa has four points. On Wednesday, they will play their last league stage encounter against Delhi FC.
The Hero Futsal Club Championship 2021-22 is India’s inaugural national level futsal event. It features 16 teams divided into 4 groups and is played in a round-robin style.
The top team from every group advances to the semi-finals, which will be contested in a knockout style among the teams. The tournament’s victors would be crowned as India’s first futsal champions.
