KHADC panel to study tradition and culture

EC refuses to refer amended Elaka bill to select committee

Shillong, Sep 24: The Executive Committee, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council  (KHADC) has notified the Research and Development Committee under the Education Department of the Council.

The CEM Pyniaid Syiem announced the decision in the House on Monday.

The terms of reference of the committee are to examine and promote research on tradition and culture of the Khasi indigenous society among others, to advise the education department on line of action to be taken on such matters deemed appropriate and to examine the process and gaps in the administration of Education Department.

The following are the members of the committee

1 Chairman: C. Sohshang, EM i/c Education etc..

2. Honorary Secretary: Dr. K.K. Nongsiej, Principal Sngap Syiem College Mawkyrwat

3 Member East Khasi Hills District: Dr. Jasmine Mary Lyngdoh.

4 Member Ri-Bhoi District: Dr. Plielad Nongsiej, Principal KJP Synod College, Nongstoin.

5 Member Eastern West Khasi Hills District: -Dr. D.RL. Nonglait, Professor Department of Khasi, NEHU, Shillong.

6 Member West Khasi Hills District: Dr. Faithfulness Marngar.

7 Member South West Khasi Hills District: Dr. Belinda Marwein, Vice Principal Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat

8 Member : Dr. Barika Khyriem, Assistant Professor Department of Linguistic, NEHU, Shillong

9. Recording Secretary: Under Secretary ic Education etc. Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Shillong.

Opp walks out 

The opposition members walked out as the NPP-led executive committee refused to refer the KHAD (Administration of Elaka) (Second Amendment) Bill, 2023, which was passed by the House, to the select committee for further examination.

Leader of Opposition Titosstarwell Chyne along with other opposition members  staged a walk out after the KHADC chief executive member Pyniaid Sing Syiem and deputy chief executive member Pynshngainlang Sing Syiem asserted that the executive committee will not refer the Bill to the select committee during the special session, which concluded on Monday.
