Local taxi drivers overcharge, cite fuel price hike

Shillong, Oct 19: Local taxi drivers have started overcharging from passengers citing fuel price hike as the reason.

However, the government has not released any new taxi fare.

Several passengers informed that drivers did not pay heed to their suggestion to wait for the government order before causing inconvenience to the public.

Another suggestion to the drivers was to take up the matter with the taxi associations so that they can meet the government to find a solution.

One of the passengers said a taxi driver was not even ready to negotiate the fare and insisted on double the regular fare.

Many taxi drivers also did not follow the health protocols as far as seat occupancy was concerned. Sanitisation of seats or keeping a bottle of sanitiser for passengers is rare now despite the state recording cases of Covid-19.
