Shillong, June 11: The president, Meghalaya Mahila Pradesh Congress Committee, Joplyn Shylla wanted people to avoid war of words on the issue of death of a pregnant woman, who left behind her new-born- baby at Dangar PHC under Mawsynram, East Khasi Hills.
The medical professionals and associations had criticised Congress MLA HM Shangpliang from Mawsynram for raking up the issue as they have been facing problems in the health centres in the absence of manpower and medical equipment.
In a statement issued on Friday, Shylla said that there is no need to get into confrontation on such issues since the matter is under inquiry.
“We hope that both sides of the story would shed better understanding in public and allow the people to form their own opinion”, she said.
The allegations were that the local MLA had called a ‘media trial’ on the medical workers of the PHC.
“In the light of these statements and counter-statements, we the Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee would like to settle this matter once and for all that the legislator and a senior member in the party had gone to the area to find out the truth and see for himself the condition of the Primary Health Centre at Dangar which was run and managed by VHAM an NGO that was given contract under the Public-Private Partnership model by the state government”, Shylla said.
The arrival of the local MLA at the PHC was to shed light on the conditions and difficulties that the patients encounter from time to time and also those engaged in the profession are burdened and ‘we empathise with them due to the lack of proper and improved infrastructure, better equipment, emergency tools and technology’.
The Mahila congress chief said it was not a publicity stunt or for gaining any political mileage but as fellow beings, the MLA was showing concern and wanted to help the family of the deceased and near and dear ones.
