Mamata talks communal harmony in Rajabala
Banerjee invites pro-TMC chief ministers to oath-taking ceremony
Shillong, Feb 22: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday assured the voters of Rajabala, which has substantial Muslim population, that the Trinamool Congress “is a friend” of the citizens of Meghalaya that believes in unity and communal harmony.
Addressing a public meeting at the Nekikona Tilapara ground in Rajabala, Banerjee, who is also the national chief of the party, said, “We respect all religions. I believe my first and foremost duty is to be with the people. No religion is bigger than the religion of humanity and standing by the people. We abide by the secular Constitution of the country. ”
Alluding to the money power in the state elections, Banerjee asked the public, “Are you voting for the Trinamool Congress then? ”
“There will be an attempt to buy your votes with money. But you should not fall for it because if those people (other political parties) can give money, they can take it from you too, ” she added.
A Trinamool supporter told Meghalaya Monitor on condition of anonymity that money power is rampant in this part of the state. When asked whether the Trinamool Congress is also distributing money, he only smiled.
A confident Banerjee invited all opposition chief ministers who are with the Trinamool Congress to the oath-taking ceremony of the new Meghalaya government.
Slamming the State and Central governments for the Mukroh incident, Banerjee said, “They just fire at people according to their own whims and fancies but do not visit the families of those who lost their lives. Why are no central teams sent to investigate these incidents? In West Bengal, several central teams are dispatched for the smallest of things. But here, shots are fired in border areas. So many people die. But the leaders are not present to see the devastation.”
Urging the people of Meghalaya to choose leaders from the soil, the AITC Chairperson said, “Outsiders want to rule here while oppressing you with NRC, CAA, bullets, and scandals. Do not tolerate this. Meghalaya will be run by Meghalaya and not Guwahati or Delhi. We too won’t run it from Bengal. We are your friends and will only help you with whatever you need.”
The party’s candidate in Rajabala is Dr Mizanur Rahman Kazi.
