Man from GH loses Rs 73 lakh; police arrest cyber crime accused in Delhi
Shillong, March 1: Meghalaya police arrested a lady identified as Lalnunpuii from New Delhi on Tuesday in connection with a cyber crime involving lakhs of rupees.
The case was registered under Songsak police station, East Garo Hills.
According to the police, while investigating the cyber fraud case, the police team led by Inspector BK Mishra arrested Lalnunpuii in New Delhi with the support of the police there.
Mishra had recently arrested a Nigerian national from Delhi in a separate cyber fraud case.
The accused is originally from Diakkawin III, Kolasib in Mizoram while the temporary address is at Chanakaya Place, Dabri, New Delhi.
Police said the complainant lost Rs 73 lakh
“Attempts are being made to arrest other co-accused who are absconding and are likely to be in Mizoram and Delhi and the police team in Delhi had confirmed that a transaction of around Rs two crore and seventy lakh have been reported by the bank where the money was deposited by the complainant into the account which the arrested accused was operating”, the East Garo Hills police tweeted.
Police said the complainant had deposited Rs 73 lakh as he was promised of around 5 million UK pound for building an orphanage.
The complainant had raised the money from others after he received a mail from the accused regarding opening the orphanage.
The police have urged citizens to be cautious and not to become victims of such crimes.
