Public pressure, Cong no-confidence motion forced Manipur CM to resign: Rahul

Imphal/New Delhi, Feb 9 (UNI): Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh has resigned. He submitted his resignation letter to Manipur Governor A K Bhalla on Sunday.

Accompanied by Party President A Sharda, Ministers, Sambit Patra, and some other MLAs, Singh called on the Governor and submitted his resignation letter.

CM N Biren had rushed to Delhi on Saturday and came back on Sunday with Patra. After returning to Imphal he submitted the resignation letter.

Biren said in the letter “it has been an honor to serve the people of Manipur thus far”. He expressed gratitude to the Central government for timely actions, interventions, developmental work and implementation of various projects for safeguarding the interest of every single Manipuri.

He requested the Central government to continue with the same.

He asked the center to maintain the territorial integrity of Manipur which has a rich and diverse civilizational history over thousands of years.

Singh asked the centre to crack down on border infiltration and to formulate policy for the deportation of illegal immigrants.

He asked the centre to continue the fight against drugs and narco-terrorism. Singh requested to continue the stringent and fool-proof revised mechanism of FMR with the biometric being stringently applied.

The Governor has reportedly asked the CM to continue serving as the caretaker Chief Minister.

A political crisis arose after BJP MLAs revolted against N Biren Singh. The Manipur Assembly session is scheduled to start on Monday.

Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, said on Sunday that public pressure, Supreme Court investigation and Congress party’s no-confidence motion forced Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh to resign.

Accusing Biren Singh of “instigating division in Manipur”, Rahul Gandhi said on X, “For nearly two years, BJP’s CM Biren Singh instigated division in Manipur. PM Modi allowed him to continue despite the violence, loss of life and the destruction of the idea of India in Manipur.”
