Malappuram, April 17 (UNI): Manipur registered their first win through an upset victory against defending champion Services by 3-0 in their first Group-B match in the Santosh Trophy Football Championship held at Payyanad floodlit stadium on Sunday.
Following this win, Manipur came on the top position in the table with three points at the end of the first round of Group-B matches. Manipur opened their score through midfielder Ngariyanbam Jenish Singh in the 5th minute of the game, while Services lost two chances to score in the first half.
The first half score was Manipur -1, Services -0. Manipur’s forward Lunminien Haokip found the second goal through a thumping header from a corner struck by Ngylgoulal Singhst. Services defender Suni B’s own goal in the 74th minute finished the game in favour of Manipur. Manipur defender Waikhom Arunkumar Singh won the man of the match award.
