IIM alumnus gets East Shillong block Cong prez post

Shillong, Feb 11: Manuel Badwar (41) from  Kharmalki, Malki, an MBA in finance and marketing from IIM Calcutta,was appointed as president of East Shillong Block Congress Committee.

The move assumes significance as the East Shillong legislator and CLP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh and four other Congress MLAs extended support to MDA without nod from either MPCC or AICC.


The letter of appointment issued by the MPCC said that other office bearers remain unchanged.

The party has appreciated the contribution of outgoing president James Robert Lyngwa.

The new block president is the youngest son of Late Upstar Kharbuli and Mary Klin Badwar.

He has over 16 years of experience in the corporate sector and his last assignment was with Vodafone in the capacity of DGM, and as a marketing head of North East, he had  played extensive role in developing operational business strategy for the region.

According to Congress sources, he developed  new technology businesses related to IT and also ran successful business operations for various organisations like Aircel, ITC and others. He had also helped  social organisations like CRY(Child Relief and You) based out of Bangalore in improving their effectiveness in reaching out to the children who are left on the streets and the downtrodden.
