Shillong, July 20: Rangsakona MLA from NPP Subir Marak is facing criticism for a slapping incident in the city.
When contacted, the MLA said he had apologised for the incident.
According to the MLA, though the matter was settled he was surprised to know about the video of the incident being circulated on social media.
The video reveals the MLA slapping the caretaker of the MBoSE, Laitumkhrah guest house after he came late to open the gate.
The incident was around 2 am on July 16.
The statement sent via SMS by the MLA below
“The incident happened on 16th July 2:00 am.I booked MBOSE guest house at Laithumkrah,in my name. The guests were teachers representatives from Garo hills. They had an appointment with Education minister as well with Director DSEL on 16 July.On 15 evening I’ve invited them for dinner to my residence. After dinner I personally came to drop them to the guest house.Reached at 2:00.am.I had waited there for half an hour blowing siren and horn, later after half an hour my PSO climbed over the wall and woke the chowkidar of the guest house.then we had some verbal argument.Chowkidar’s wife was talking very rudely, so I gave a mild slap to the chowkidar, which I should not have done being a public representative.but it all happened out of heat of the moment. I have infact asked apology from the chowkidar. But despite apologies, they made the video viral, which should not have been done. This is unfair and breach of privilege of an elected member.”
When asked, the MLA said he had sent his PS to tender apology to the caretaker as he had to rush to Tura to attend to a relative who was seriously ill.
To a question whether he was intoxicated during the incident, the MLA said it was a ‘mild intoxication’.
He also denied pointing gun at the caretaker.
