Mother of minor children in Nongrah to get ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh
Assembly women's panel wants better coordination

Shillong, June 20: The Chairperson of the Assembly Committee for Women Empowerment, Ampareen Lyngdoh said the process is on to provide ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the mother of the two minor children, who were allegedly killed by their own father at Nongrah on May 30.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said there has been lack of coordination between the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW), Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) and the police in handling cases related to domestic violence and crimes against children in the state.
Moreover, there should not be any delay by the police to act as far as the complaints related to missing persons are concerned, she said.
Personnel of the three authorities were present during its sitting to discuss the gruesome murder of two children.
Lyngdoh said the first realisation that emerged was that there is a lack of coordination between the three authorities.
She said there is a need to prevent the fallout of the lapses in registering cases of domestic violence.
The committee has set 15 days’ time for the three authorities to meet and come up with a report.
