Shillong, April 28: Justice (retd) T Vaiphei, who is probing the Mukroh incident, examined SP Bikram Marak, on Friday.
Marak, currently the police chief of West Khasi Hills, was the SP West Jaintia Hills when the Mukroh firing incident took place.
Five persons, including an Assam forest guard, were killed in the incident.
Vaiphei said another Meghalaya government witness will be examined on April 29.
The Meghalaya government has engaged Delhi lawyers, Aditya Shankar Pandey and Amartya Sharan to represent the police, while Assam additional advocate general PN Goswami and two more advocates KP Pathak and Dixit Baruah represented Assam government.
Two counsels, TL Jyrwa and E Bareh on behalf of Mukroh villagers were also present.
Vaiphei said he wants to complete the probe at the earliest since his extension will end in June.
“If needed, I will seek extension to complete the probe”, he added.
With the consent of both the parties, the commission ordered that no oral evidence will be taken as the evidence in the form of affidavit will be used.
