Mulayam Singh dies at 82; last rites at Saifai on Tuesday

Death leaves void in national politics: Nitish

Lucknow/Mumbai/Patna/Guwahati, Oct 10 (UNI): The last rites of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav will be held at his native village Saifai in Etawah district at 3 pm on Tuesday.

Singh passed away on Monday morning at the Medanta hospital in Gurugram at the age of 82. He was ill for the last few days.

It was confirmed by the party he founded in October 1992. “Respected Netaji passed away at Medanta hospital today on October 10, 2022. His body is being taken to Saifai. Last rites will be performed in Saifai at 3 pm tomorrow on October 11, 2022,” the party tweeted.

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar expressed grief over the demise of Yadav. In a tweet, Pawar said: “Saddened to hear about the demise … Mulayam Singh Yadav.” Pawar credited him with fighting communal forces and working to create a socialist society.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar condoled Yadav’s death and described the unfortunate incident as great loss of socialist movement in the country. Kumar in his message, recalled the great contribution of Yadav in socialist movement besides Uttar Pradesh and national politics.

“Yadav was greatest socialist leader in the country of contemporary phase,” he added.

” The demise of Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav ji is a colossal loss to Indian politics. For many decades he ruled the hearts of millions. I am pained beyond words. My condolences to @yadavakhilesh ji, family, friends & followers, who are all anguished at the passing away of Neta Ji,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.
