Mawphlang, Jan 16: President of India Droupadi Murmu addressed a gathering here and virtually inaugurated the upgraded Rongjeng Mangsang Adokgre Road and Mairang Ranigodown Azra Road besides laying the foundation stones for Shillong Peak Ropeway and tourist accommodations in the villages of Kongthong, Mawlyngot and Kudengrim.
In her address, she spoke about the heritage of Mawphlang sacred grove and the role of women in conservation initiatives.
“Women play a role in conservation initiatives. We should ensure that the heritage is not lost , there is a need to document traditional knowledge and ancient wisdom”, she added.
Earlier, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma spoke about varied initiatives of his government.
He stressed the need of promoting adventure tourism, Meghalayan Age and caves.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh also welcomed the President.
