NECC, Mamata laud Congress & voters in K’taka for ousting BJP
Grand Old Party wins 136 of 224 seats; BJP bags 65
Shillong/Kolkata, May 13 (Agencies): The North East Congress Coordination Committee (NECC) on Saturday congratulated the electorate of Karnataka for comprehensively defeating the “divisive and polarisation politics of BJP led by none other than the Prime Minister”.
The Congress entered the election fray on issues faced by the common and poor people while the ‘double engine’ BJP government relied on sheer money power and communal politics, said Diganta Chaudhury, general secretary of NECC in a statement.
“Today’s mandate amply reflects that the people of Karnataka have embraced politics of love instead of hatred and squarely voted for social harmony and economic growth,” he added.
The Congress won 136 of the 224 Assembly seats, way above the magic number, while BJP won in 65 constituencies. Janata Dal (Secular) got 19 seats.
Meanwhile, describing the routing of the BJP in the Karnataka Assembly election as the “beginning of the end” of the saffron brigade before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said when people want plurality and democratic forces to win, no “central design to dominate can repress” their spontaneity.
