Nepal prez rescinds ordinance on constitutional council

Kathmandu, July 18 (UNI): As per the recommendation of the government, Nepal’s President Bidhya Devi Bhandari on Sunday rescinded the Constitutional Council Act (Amendment) Ordinance.

A statement issued by the President’s office said the President has rescinded the Constitutional Council amendment ordinance as per the recommendation of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Sunday itself, pursuant to Article 114(2b) of the constitution.

The Cabinet meeting held on Saturday had decided to recommend the revocation of the ordinance to the President.

The ordinance was issued by the president on May 4, 2021.

Himalayan Times quoted Article 284 (1) of the Nepalese constitution, according to which the Council has the PM as chairperson and chief justice, speaker, deputy speaker, chair of the National Assembly and leader of the opposition as members of the body.
