NESO to observe Black Day on Dec 11 against CAA

Shillong, Dec 8: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has decided to observe Black Day in all the seven Northeastern states on December 11 in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, which according to NESO, is a political injustice against the indigenous people of the region.
NESO chairman Samuel B Jyrwa said in a statement issued on Friday that the organisation would like to remind the people of the North East that on December 11, 2019, despite the relentless opposition of the indigenous peoples of the North East against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019, the Government of India did not pay heed and it finally through the Rajya Sabha passed the draconian law which is known as Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019.
NESO reiterated that 11th December will always be remembered as a Black Day for the whole of the North East.
“So, in continuation of the observation of the Black Day, the NESO has decided that there will be a display of black fags and black banners in all the important places of all the seven states on the 11th of December 2023,” Jyrwa said.
“ThisĀ  observation is to give a message to the Government of India that we are against this Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 and also at the same time to remind our people and our posterior of yet another political injustice that the Government of India perpetrated against the indigenous peoples of the North East,” he said.
NESO, called upon all the people of the North East to support this observation and at the same time to keep on fighting for the just cause.
