No arrest yet after Ichamati violence

Police allay third death rumours

Shillong, Mar 28: The police have not made any arrest regarding the lynching of two persons at Ichamati in East Khasi Hills.

“We have strong leads on some individuals who we suspect to have committed the crimes at Ichamati. However, no arrests have been made so far,” EKH SP Rituraj Ravi said in a statement issued on Thursday.

The bodies of Esan Singh and Sujit Dutta were found on Wednesday evening at Ichamati and Dalda respectively after the anti- CAA rally organised by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) along with other pressure groups at Ichamati.

“We are investigating the motive behind the crime. We urge everyone to maintain peace and abide by the rule of law,” he added.

No third death 

The SP also ruled out third death following the violent incident in Ichamati.

“There has been a rumour floating on social media that a third dead body has been reported in Ichamati area. This is not true. We have searched the entire area and talked to all concerned villages”, the SP added.
