Shillong, June 9: The National People’s Party (NPP) has planned Northeast 2047: Gateway to Prosperity aimed at strengthening democratic participation, promoting peace and reconciliation in the Northeast, safeguarding indigenous rights, and accelerating inclusive development
The party, under the leadership of its National President Conrad Sangma, slconducted its National Committee Meeting and Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Orchid Resort, Mawkasiang, New Shillong Township on June 8.
The national committee meeting, the apex decision-making body of the party, was attended by senior leaders, office bearers, and MLAs from Meghalaya, Manipur, and Nagaland. Key discussions focused on the political roadmap, organisational strengthening, and upcoming electoral strategies across the Northeast and beyond.
During the AGM, the party adopted a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening democratic participation, promoting peace and reconciliation in the Northeast.
A key highlight of the AGM was the resolution calling for a transparent, time-bound, and consultative FCRA framework, balancing national security concerns with the need to enable genuine civil society organisations to effectively serve communities, particularly in underserved regions.
On the Northeast’s role in national development, he added: “The Northeast is central to India’s future. With the right policies and inclusive development, the region can emerge as a gateway to prosperity and growth for the entire nation”, the chief minister said.
