Shillong, Feb 23: The troops of 4 Bn BSF, Meghalaya seized 6440 kg of betel leaves worth Rs 16 lakh from three vehicles on Wednesday.
The drivers were also picked up by the BSF.

The betel leaves were meant for smuggling to Bangladesh through the international border of East Khasi Hills district. The vehicle was heading towards the International border when intercepted by the BSF near the bordering village of Wahkdait.
According to the BSF, Indian betel leaves are in high demand in Bangladesh which prompts smugglers to earn profit through illicit trade of these leaves. Arrested Indian nationals and seized items were handed over to Customs Pynursla for further action, the BSF said in a statement.
