
Shillong, July 21: With the NDA nominee, Droupadi Murmu winning the presidential poll, on Thursday, the nation created history as it got the first tribal president.
Murmu had visited the state as part of the campaign ( in picture).

After the victory, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, in a video message, congratulated her and recalled that PA Sangma had laid the foundation or nurtured the idea of a tribal president and it has been fulfilled.
In the last presidential poll in 2012, Purno, who was the candidate of the opposition NDA, was defeated by the UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee.
