People living with HIV/AIDS to get ration from MLAs’ forum

Shillong, June 14: As many as 1,500 people living with HIV/AIDS who are affected by the Covid induced lockdown, will receive essential items thanks to the intervention of the Meghalaya Legislators Forum on HIV/AIDS.

This was decided in a meeting chaired by Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Monday.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma among others were present.

Lyngdoh told reporters that the proposal from the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) to distribute dry rations to people living with HIV/AIDS was discussed during the meeting of the Forum.

“Hence, we have decided that dry rations will be provided to them,” he said.

The speaker said there are around 1,574 people who are availing treatment for HIV/AIDS and 202 are children.

The Forum also decided to meet quarterly the children who are living with HIV/AIDS.
